- 1). Right click the Windows XP taskbar.
- 2). Click "Task Manager."
- 3). Click the "Applications" tab.
- 4). Click the "New Task" button. Alternatively, click "File" in the top menu.
- 5). Type "Chkdsk" in the "Open" box.
- 6). Click "OK" and Windows Chkdsk will begin scanning your hard drive.
