    • 1). Push the iPhone's docking cable into the bottom of the iPhone until it clicks into place, which signifies it is securely attached to the phone.

    • 2). Insert the other end of the cable into the computer's marked USB port. The USB port on your computer will have the same symbol located on the docking cable. Alternately, insert the cable into the power adapter, and plug the power adapter into an available electrical socket.

    • 3). Keep the iPhone connected to the docking cable and the electrical outlet or computer for at least one hour, according to Pogue, as the iPhone will charge to 80 percent within that time.

    • 4). Launch iTunes, and click the eject button on the iPhone's tab to safely remove the iPhone from the computer, if that's where it is connected for the recharge.
