    • 1). Remove the screws holding the door hinges to the door frame with a screwdriver. Assign a helper to lift the door and set it aside, along with the screws.

    • 2). Cut a 5-inch length piece of underlayment as wide as the width of a laminate strip. Spread the underlayment cutout on one side of the doorway, next to the corresponding door jamb. Position the plank face down on the underlayment cutout.

    • 3). Mark the height of the underlayment and laminate strip on the jamb lightly with a pencil or tape. Form a straight line that extends all the way along the jamb and wall molding. Move this plank and cutout to the adjacent side of the doorway and repeat the process to mark its height on the jamb and molding. Set the plank and underlayment cutout aside.

    • 4). Position the blade of your handsaw directly over the marked line along the jamb on one side of the doorway. Cut all the way through the jamb until reaching the the wall.

    • 5). Pry loose and remove the piece of wood from under the jamb. Brush the cut section to remove debris. Repeat the process to cut along the other marked line on the adjacent jamb.

    • 6). Lay underlayment on the subfloor under the doorway, extending it to the other room. Alternatively, spread a moisture barrier if the laminate planks you are laying have preattached underlayment.

    • 7). Cut a laminate plank to the width of the doorway, minus 1/4 inch to allow for expansion. Spread an even layer of adhesive over the back of this plank.

    • 8). Set this plank between the doorway, directly under the jambs. Cut as many planks as required to the width of the doorway, minus 1/4 inch, and slide these under the jambs until this section of floor is installed.

    • 9). Continue the process of installing full-sized planks in the adjacent room. Snap their tongue-and-groove joints to secure them over the underlayment.
