How to Bind Off 2-by-2 Ribbing on a Scarf
- 1). Move the yarn to the back of your work and knit the first two stitches of the bind-off row; this prevents the yarn from positioning itself over the needle and accidentally creating a new stitch. Knit the knit stitches of the previous row to maintain the 2-by-2 rib pattern.
- 2). Insert the tip of the left-hand needle into the first worked stitch. Pass it over the second stitch and slide it off the needle.
- 3). Bring the yarn to the front of your work and purl the next stitch. By purling the purl stitches of the previous row, you are maintaining the rib pattern in your bind off.
- 4). Repeat passing the first stitch over the second and sliding it off the needle.
- 5). Purl the next stitch.
- 6). Repeat passing the first stitch over the second and sliding it off the needle.
- 7). Continue in this manner until you have bound off all your stitches.
- 8). Block the scarf to enhance the 2-by-2 rib pattern. Lay the scarf completely flat and pin into place. Fill a spray bottle with lukewarm water and spritz the scarf liberally. Allow to air dry naturally and then remove the pins.
- 9). Add any embellishments, such as fringe or tassels, to your scarf. The 2-by-2 bind off will not affect how you add these embellishments or how they will appear on the scarf.
