Fun With Laser Pointers
- Laser pointers are a lot of fun to use with pet dogs and cats. Point the laser at an object and move it around. Most animals will chase and attempt to catch the laser beam. It is amusing to watch them run after the laser and it gives them good exercise. Try moving the laser in a way that replicates the movements of insects or birds, and stop playing when your pet appears to be tired. Do not point the laser directly at the animal.
- When you point a laser pointer at a foggy area its light becomes dispersed, which means you can do cool tricks with it. Direct the light through a glass into a foggy area to form a fan shape. Aim it through fog toward a crystal or drill bit and it will do something similar. Use a fog machine or dry ice to create the fog for this activity. You can also attempt this trick outside in foggy weather.
- Shine a laser pointer inside an opaque light bulb to view the filament. It is fun to see something that is impossible to see with the naked eye. The laser beam creates a small point of light that spreads throughout the bulb because of the opaque or frosted effect of the glass. You are able to see a shadow of the filament. Try comparing two light bulbs to see how their shadows differ.
- Use your laser pointer with a variety of glass and crystal objects to make interesting shapes on your ceiling. Get together as many pieces of glass and crystal as you have on hand and point the laser through them individually onto the ceiling. Do this slowly to find shapes that are caused by the way each piece of glass was made. You may see netting, clouds or what looks like alien structures on the ceiling.
