How to Stop Update Messages
- 1). Click "Start." Type "Notification Area" in the search box at the bottom of the "Start" menu. Press "Enter" to open the "Notification Area Icons" window.
- 2). Remove the check mark from the box at the bottom of the window that is entitled "Always Show All Icons and Notifications on the Taskbar."
- 3). Scroll through the list to find programs listed under the "Icons" column to find the items that are broadcasting updates from the taskbar. Click the drop-down menu next to that item, under the "Behaviors" column. Select "Hide Icon and Notifications."
- 4). Click the "Turn System Icons On or Off" link at the bottom of the window. Find the Windows-specific operating system item that is broadcasting alerts. Open the drop-down menu next to the item, under the "Behaviors" column. Select "Off."
- 5). Click "OK," twice, to save the changes and close the windows. These actions stop programs' update messages from broadcasting from the taskbar in the Windows 7 operating system.
