How to Fix a Game CD
- 1). Wipe any dirt or soot off of the game CD with a clean, dry cloth. Be gentle as applying too much pressure could crack the CD in half. Rub the cloth over the disc until the dirt and debris are gone.
- 2). Purchase a CD repair kit. These can be picked up at any major electronics retailer. They are used to remove light scratches from the data side of CDs and work well with game CDs. Because there is a layer of plastic between the surface of the disc and the actual stored data, light scratches often just affect the layer of plastic. A CD repair kit will remove the scratches, making the disc readable once again.
- 3). Make a copy of the disc. Because the laser used to write to and copy the information contained on a disc is different from the one used to actually read the disc (which is why all CD writer drives can read discs but not all CD-ROM drives can write discs), often it will be able to copy all the data from a compromised disc completely uninterrupted. The data will then be on a perfectly fine copied disc, ready for playing once again.
