How to Make Steampunk Goggles With Gatorade Caps
- 1). Remove the centers of the Gatorade caps to create circular eyeholes. Poke a hole in the center of each Gatorade cap with your scissors or another sharp object such as a screwdriver; this will be your starting point for cutting through the plastic. Discard the plastic you remove from the caps.
- 2). Paint the caps with metallic acrylic paint. Allow it to dry for two to four hours.
- 3). Cover the eyeholes of the dried caps with discs of clear cellophane wrap. Glue the edges of the cellophane to the inside edges of the cap, using hot glue.
- 4). Cut out a panel from your empty cereal box and use it to sketch an eye mask template. Use a preexisting eye mask as a model to trace, or take measurements of your face from temple to temple and the highest point between your eyebrows to the bridge of your nose. Place the goggle caps on top of the eye mask template and trace their outlines. Follow the outlines and cut the eye mask template from the cardboard.
- 5). Place the template on top of your leather or faux leather material. Trace the outline of the mask onto the material and cut it out.
- 6). Insert the Gatorade caps into the eyeholes in the mask. Secure them in place with hot glue.
- 7). Cut a strip of elastic band to fit securely from the edges of the eye mask around your head. Sew the edges of the elastic to the edges of either side of the eye mask with your sewing machine.
- 8). Glue nuts and bolts to the mask to give it an extra boost for that industrial steampunk look.
