How to Cut a Small Square Tile in Half
- 1). Measure the tile carefully to make sure you know exactly where the halfway mark is. Make a mark with a pencil in this spot.
- 2). Lay a speed square along the edge of the tile to get a straight line down the middle.
- 3). Run a carbide tipped pencil along the midpoint line of the tile. Move the pencil across this line a few times to score the tile.
- 4). Grip the edge of the tile with the tile nippers. The line you scored should now run horizontally above the tile nippers.
- 5). Hold the tile firmly and use the nippers to break the tile in half. Smooth out the rough edge with a rubbing stone.
