How to Make Welting for a Cushion
- 1). Measure for the width of the fabric strip. Wrap a strip of paper around the cording and pin the ends of the strip together. Cut the strip ½" from the pin. Remove paper strip and record the length.
- 2). Measure around the edge of the cushion and add 2". Record the measurement. This is the length of the fabric strip.
- 3). Cut a fabric strip using the width and length measurements.
- 4). Cover the cording. Place the cording on the wrong side of the fabric strip and fold the fabric over, lining up the fabric edges. Using a zipper foot on the right side of the sewing machine needle, start stitching 2" from the end of the welting and baste close to the cording.
- 5). Machine baste the fabric strip along the edge of the cording.
