    Refinish Kitchen & Bathroom Cabinets

    • 1). Wash the cabinets down with warm water and a clean rag.

    • 2). When the cabinets are dry, rough the finish up with 220-grit sandpaper. Then wipe the dust off using a tack cloth or a dry rag.

    • 3). Paint a solid coat of Kilz primer or other sealer primer on the roughed-up surface. Allow to dry completely.

    • 4). Buff the primed surface with 220-grit sandpaper, and wipe the dust off with a tack cloth or a dry rag.

    • 5). Paint the surface using a paint brush and a paint roller. Multiple coats may need to be added to ensure good, even coverage. Allow each coat of paint to dry completely before adding another coat, and buff between each coat with 220-grit sandpaper. Wipe the dust off with a tack cloth or a dry rag between each coat.

    • 6). When the last coat of paint is dry, you will need to apply at least two coats of polyurethane, buffing with 220-grit sandpaper between each coat. Wipe the dust off with a tack cloth or a dry rag between each coat.
