    • 1). Restart your computer. Press F8 repeatedly as your computer boots up. The "Windows Advanced Boot Options" menu appears.

    • 2). Select "Safe Mode with Networking" from the menu using your arrow keys and press Enter.

    • 3). Download and install one of several free anti-malware programs. Free anti-malware programs include Avast! Free Antivirus, Microsoft Security Essentials and AVG Antivirus Free Edition 2011.

    • 4). Run a full system scan using the anti-malware program. A full system scan searches your computer for malware. A quick scan only searches the areas most likely to be infected with malware. Note that the procedure for running a full system scan differs slightly depending on the anti-malware program you are using. For example, in Microsoft Security Essentials, click the "Home" tab, check the box next to "Full" and click "Scan." In Avast! Free Antivirus 6, click "Scan Computer" in the left pane and click "Start" next to "Full System Scan."

    • 5). Restart your computer and run a second full system scan to ensure that all malware is removed.
