How to Cut Perfect Circles From Squares

    • 1). Select a square piece of wood large enough to accommodate the diameter of the desired circle. Draw a line that bisects the square piece of wood. Determine where the line will be drawn by measuring the piece of wood with a tape measure and dividing the measurement in half. Use a speed square and a pencil to draw the line. Measure down the line to a point equal to the radius of the circle to be cut and mark that measurement with the pencil. Drill a hole the same diameter and depth as the peg on the circle-cutting jig at the previously marked radius.

    • 2). Attach the circle-cutting jig to the bandsaw that will be used. Determine the radius of the circle to be cut by dividing the diameter in half. Adjust the circle-cutting jig's centering peg by positioning the center of the peg at a distance equal to the radius of the circle to be cut, away from the bandsaw blade.

    • 3). Set the previously drilled hole in the square piece of wood over the centering peg of the circle cutting jig. Turn on the bandsaw and rotate the square piece of wood toward the teeth of the bandsaw until you have formed a perfect circle. Turn off the bandsaw and remove the perfect circle, completing the project.
