    • 1). Cut your 55-gallon drum. Have a machinist handle this. Cut it cut lengthwise down the center. Once it is cut, file off the rough edges with a metal file.

    • 2). Place one of the drum halves on a flat surface, with the cut edge down, and drill three holes. Drill one in the center, and two spaced evenly on either side, The diameter of these holes will depend on your light sockets. File off any jagged edges with the metal file again.

    • 3). Connect the plugs and light bulb sockets to the wire, following the manufacturer's instructions. The usual procedure is to screw the wires into the appropriate terminal with a screwdriver.

    • 4). Mount your sockets to the drum with your mounting brackets and nuts and bolts. Drill some holes for this. Place the bracket on the oven, and use a pencil or chalk to mark where you will need holes for the bolts.

    • 5). Cover the drum with the aluminum duct material. This is easiest if you lay it lengthwise and trim the excess to make the half-circle portion. Use the aluminum tape to attach the duct material to the drum.

    • 6). Screw your twin socket into the center socket attached to your drum. Now install all four of your 100-watt bulbs into the sockets. Use your paving bricks to support your drum; these can also be moved to adjust your oven's temperature, more or less airflow will change the temperature. Test the oven; place your thermometer in the center of the bulbs and take temperature readings every hour or so.
