How to Upgrade Microsoft XP
- 1). Insert a Windows 7 installation disc into your computer.
- 2). Open the Windows 7 disc from "My Computer," then navigate to the "Support" folder and double-click the "migsetup" file.
- 3). Click "Next," then select the "External Hard Drive" option.
- 4). Select the "This is my old computer" option, then click "Next."
- 5). Choose all of the profiles and files you wish to transfer to your Windows 7 installation, then click "Next." Note that you cannot back up applications, and will need to reinstall all of your applications and drivers.
- 6). Enter a password (this is optional) and click "Save."
- 7). Launch the Windows 7 installation by returning to "My Computer" and double-clicking the "setup.exe" file once the file transfer has been completed.
- 8). Click "Install Now," then choose to install the latest updates for Windows 7.
- 9). Enter your product key and accept the license agreement.

Choose the "Custom" option, then select the partition where you wish to install Windows 7. The new operating system will now install itself. - 11
Click "Start," "All Programs," "Accessories" and "Tools" to find and launch "Windows Easy Transfer." - 12
Click the "Next" button, then select the "External hard drive" option. - 13
Select the "This is my new computer" option, then click "Next." - 14
Browse for the backup file you created earlier, then click "Open." - 15
Choose the profiles you wish to transfer to your new installation, then click "Transfer." - 1). Check Microsoft's "Upgrading from Windows XP to Windows Vista" Web page to see which upgrade option is available to you based on your current operating system version and the Vista version you have (see Resources).
- 2). Insert the Vista installation disc into your computer.
- 3). Select the "Install Now" option.
- 4). Choose to download the latest updates, enter your product key, then select the "Upgrade" option.
- 5). Enter the requested personalized setup options and complete the upgrade.
