    • 1). If you have a metal roof and feel that you have a leak here are some ways that you can locate it. Even a pin sized leak in the right place can result in major leakage, especialyif the hole is in a roof valley. If you have noticed water dripping from the ceiling or moldy spots on the attic insulation, you may have a leak in your metal roofing. First locate your attic access and on a sunny day go up into the attic.

    • 2). Look for tiny spots of light coming from holes in your metal roof. If you find a hole, take a straightened coat hanger and poke it up through the hole so you can locate it from above.

    • 3). You can also locate a leak in your metal roof by setting up several bright halogen lights inside your attic and climbing up on the roof to look for light coming up from below. Be careful when setting up lights in the attic so as not to cause a fire. Safely climb up to your roof, if you are able to do so, and look for shafts of light coming up from below. Along roof valleys look for light coming up around the flashing material. Often you can patch small seaks with a metal roof screw applied from above.
Always be careful when walking in an unfinished attic and on slippery metal roof surfaces.
