How to Make a Tundra Model
- 1). Place your picture up on the wall, near where you are going to build your model. Use it as a guide in creating your model. Use the encyclopedia entry on tundras to find out what type of animals lived in the tundra, such as elk, deer and foxes.
- 2). Paint your plywood a green color, to make grass, and paint the cotton balls to look like green bushes. Wait for the paint to dry and add several coats, until the wood texture can no longer be seen.
- 3). Glue the green pieces of cotton to the model to create three dimensional grass textures. Make sure to glue pieces of white cotton to the board as well, to recreate the look of snow.
- 4). Bunch up green cotton balls in areas to create hills and valleys for your model. Pack these cotton balls tightly, to make sure they look smooth like the ground.
- 5). Place cotton on the end of your small sticks and glue the sticks to the board to create small, tundra trees. Make these trees no more than a half an inch, to an inch tall.
- 6). Buy plastic model animals of the type you want to use in your model. Glue these throughout the model to create the wildlife.
- 7). Add any other details to your model, such a painting a small blue pond or paint areas white to represent the permafrost layer.
