How to Create an Electric Charge Using a Magnet
- 1). Create a wire coil by tightly winding the wire around the paper roll. The coil should be at least one and a half inches wide and several layers thick. The goal is to create a coil resembling a spool of thread. Leave several inches of wire loose at both ends to connect it to the ammeter.
- 2). Tie the string to one end of the magnet so that you can pass it through the wire coil. If the poles of the magnet are marked, note which pole will pass through the coil first. The direction the pole is moving determines whether a positive or negative charge is created. For example, the current flows one way when the north pole enters the coil and reverses itself when the north pole is pulled back out.
- 3). Pass the magnet through the coil at various speeds and note the reaction of the ammeter gauge. The faster the magnet moves through the coil, the more current is generated.
