How to Remove Minerals From Tap Water in a Saltwater Tank
- 1). Install a reverse osmosis filter onto the tap in the sink where you plan to fill your container. Usually, an RO filter threads onto the tip of the tap. A reverse osmosis filter removes more minerals, chemicals and pharmaceuticals than any other type of filter.
- 2). Fill a clean bucket full of water. Do not fill more than your tank allows.
- 3). Add a saltwater supplement to your water. Mix with a clean spoon. Salt water does require minerals, but not the ones commonly found in tap water. Adding these nutrients and supplements to the water ensures a healthy tank.
- 4). Pour the water into the tank.
