How to Make a Tremulous Map

    • 1). Plan the type of map you would like to create. Draw the two bases and mark one for human and one for alien. Then draw a small circle in areas in which you would like small fights or skirmishes to take place. These circles will represent large rooms where players will most likely perform most of the fighting. Next, draw the possible paths you would like to have. Finally, add any final touches you'd like to have, like trap triggers, resource spawns and possible base relocation spots.

    • 2). Open the GTKradiant map editor and select a new map. Begin by creating your first room. Start from an outside and work your way from left to right. Most maps start with one base on the left side and another base on the right. Place the base's spawn points and shops around and enclose them by four walls, a floor and a ceiling. You can place the starting equipment like turrets and armories by right-clicking and selecting "Team" from the team select the race and type of equipment. You must make sure that you leave room for people to walk between their bases' fixtures along with making sure the entire room is enclosed. If you do not have the entire room enclosed there will be holes in the map which allow players to fall out of the map and exploit various glitches.

    • 3). Create your floor on the Z-Axis located on the left hand side of the map editor. Make the floor at least 32 gu thick, the size of one full block on the grid. Adjust the floor so that it connects with every wall, leaving no gaps. Select the floor and hold the "spacebar" to clone the floor; drag it up along the Z-Axis to create your ceiling.

    • 4). Use the clipper tool to cut a hole in your wall and create a corner. Use this on each side of the entry to your hall to create the opening. Now use the brush to create your floors and walls just like you did for the base. Use this method to create all of your rooms, halls and bases.

    • 5). Create each base by right-clicking on the room you wish to use as a base, selecting the "team" menu and building your spawn points and buildings like energy cores, shops, armory and, if you wish, turrets. Each base should contain the same level and type of starting equipment so that the game is fair for both sides.

    • 6). Create any entities you wish the map to have. Entities are any kind of device that acts on its own. These can be traps, doors, or turrets other then the base turrets. Entities are added through the "Entity" menu, and the way they behave is defined by the listed functions you select.

    • 7). Decorate and detail your map. The first and most noticeable detail is decorating the walls and floors. Until you assign a wall tile, all tiles will be the default "Shade not found." You will need to select your brush and detail the walls according to how you want them to appear.

    • 8). Save your map as a pk3 file in your Tremulous maps folder.
