      Astronomy falls under the heading of physics and is the science of investigating the objects that can be seen in the night sky. Some astronomy science fair project ideas are the following: measuring the motion of a coronal mass ejection -- northern lights -- using the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory Satellite, suitable for high school students; lunar crater counting or investigating why the moon appears larger at certain times, suitable for middle school students; and measuring the diameter of the sun and moon, or investigating how soon after sunset the sky becomes dark, suitable for elementary school students.

    Environmental Science

      Environmental science is the study of the different interactions between humans and the world around us. Some project ideas are investigating the use of wood versus alternative materials, or deforestation, suitable for high school students; investigating the problems of landfill sites, or performing a survey of the area where the student lives to determine what species of animal and plant life live there, suitable for middle school students; and investigating the greenhouse effect, or measuring soil erosion, suitable for elementary school students.

    Human Behavior

      Human behavior falls into the category of behavioral and social science and is, quite literally, the study of human behavior. Some topic ideas for this category follow: investigating the most effective way to quit smoking, or investigating bias in a photographic line-up, suitable for high school students; investigating whether attractive packaging leads to healthier eating, or the study of facial expressions, suitable for middle school students; and investigating whether smiling is contagious, or how easy it is to tell if a smile is real or fake, suitable for elementary school students.

      Zoology is an aspect of life science, specializing in the study of animal life, including habitat, behavior, reproduction and evolution. Some ideas for a zoology science fair project are investigating how birds navigate during migration, or investigating how museum curators clean and assemble skeletons, suitable for high school students; examining what the most effective treatment for whitefly on plants is, or how caffeine effects the physiology of animals, suitable for middle school students; and investigating what type of habitat bugs prefer, or how different animals receive stimuli, suitable for elementary school students.
