How to Tile Cork-Backed Trivets
- 1). Clean the surface of the cork-backed trivet to remove any food stains, grease or dust. Wipe it down with a soapy cloth and again with a clean, wet cloth.
- 2). Decide what types of tile you plan to use. Mosaic tiles are small and come in different shapes. You could also choose one large tile or several larger tiles depending on the trivet size.
- 3). Apply a layer of tile grout to the top of the cork-backed trivet. Use a square-notched trowel for the application and to form lines across the grout.
- 4). Press the tile or tiles into place on top of the trivet. Allow the grout at least 24 hours of drying time.
- 5). Trim away any excess tile if necessary by using tile nippers. Place the tile nipper over the tile until the bottom part hits the side of the trivet. Press downward and the tile will cut evenly across.
