How to Configure a Proxy Server for Windows XP
- 1). Click on the "Start menu button." Select the "Control Panel" and then scroll to "Internet Options."
- 2). Select the "Connections" tab. Under the "Local Area Network (LAN) Settings" title, click the "LAN Settings" button.
- 3). Click the box under "Proxy Server." Select the box next to "Bypass Proxy Server for Local Addresses."
- 4). Open your Internet browser and go to a proxy server website. Free Proxy Server List and Free Proxy List offer free addresses. Decide on a proxy server address.
- 5). Click on the "Address:" box in the "Local Area Network (LAN) Settings" window. Type in or paste the address from Step 4. Next to the Proxy server on the site, there is a "Port" number. Insert that into the "Port:" option.
- 6). Click the "Advance" button to change the proxy server for various Internet features. Insert the address and port of the proxy in each box. Skip this step if you want to use one proxy for your Internet. Press the "Ok" tab three times to save changes.
