- 1). Determine where to install the valance rod. The rod may be installed directly on the window frame or on the wall approximately 1 to 2 inches above and from either side of the window frame.
- 2). Measure and mark the placement of the mounting brackets. Use a tape measure to determine the location of the mounting brackets on each side of the window. Mark each spot with a pencil. Ensure each bracket is marked for the same height by resting a level on the tape measure while it is outstretched between the two points.
- 3). Install the brackets. Hold the bracket at the marked location and drill the screws into the wall. Repeat for the second side.
- 4). Attach the valance rod. Run the rod shaft through the valance fabric opening and gently place each end into the installed wall brackets.
- 5). Set a level on top of the installed valance rod to make sure it is level. If one side is significantly higher than the other, remove the rod, unscrew one bracket and remeasure before screwing the bracket into the wall again.
