How to Install Fedora 9 in Windows XP
- 1). Install the Fedora 9 installation DVD. You will be asked if you want to check the media before the installation begins. Choose "Skip." Press "Enter."
- 2). Anaconda, which is the Fedora 9 installer, will load. This will bring up the welcome screen. When this screen appears, click on "Next."
- 3). A list of dozens of languages will appear. Click on the language that you want the operating system to use. For our purposes, we will assume that you will scroll down and click on "English." Click "Next."
- 4). A screen will appear that asks you to select your keyboard layout. If you are an American, the proper choice to scroll down to would be "U.S. English." Select this; click "Next."
- 5). A network configuration screen will appear. If you are operating on a DHCP network, you can click "Next" to go through this section. If you are working on a static IP address, you will need to fill some technical information into the boxes on the page. The information filled in here will depend on the personal settings of your computer and network. Any questions in this section that you are unsure about should be directed to your IP provider. After the information is filled in, click "Next."
- 6). Select the proper time zone information from the next screen that appears and click "Next." The next screen will ask for you to type and re-type a system administrator password. This password will be required to make changes to the system.
- 7). A partitioning screen will be the next to come up. You should choose the "Use Free Space on the Selected Drives" and "Create Default Layout" options on the drop down menu.
- 8). Continue to select "Next" for the next several screens. Modifications can be made on these screens, but they should not be necessary for typical installation.
- 9). Wait about 10 minutes for the "Congratulations" screen to appear. Select the "Reboot" option, and the installation of Fedora 9 in Windows XP will be complete.
