Homemade Oscilloscopes

Originally, oscilloscopes used a cathode ray tube (CRT), the same kind of screen you find in older TV sets. You can make an oscilloscope using a cathode ray tube removed from an old TV, which you have connected to special circuitry that processes incoming waveforms and displays them on the screen. - You can also make an oscilloscope using homemade circuitry and send the signal to a computer. Install special signal processing software on the computer to view the waveform on the computer screen and even print it out. Similar systems have been devised that use smart-phones.
- Cannibalizing old TV sets and discarded electronic equipment is very hazardous. Some of the interior parts can hold a lethal charge long after the equipment was last connected to an electric outlet.
