How to Remove Kinks From a Waxed Linen Cord

    • 1). Unravel and untie the cord by hand until you can stretch it out into a single, unknotted strand.

    • 2). Stretch out the cord into a single line on a flat surface.

    • 3). Place large, heavy books all across the length of the cord to cover it. Let this arrangement sit overnight to press the cord flat. If the cord is too long to do this in one attempt, stretch out the next section of cord and press it with books as well. Continue until the entire cord has been pressed for about 4 to 6 hours.

    • 4). Wrap the cord in a lint-free, cotton dish cloth. Leave the cord stretched out, or wrapped in long coils, to avoid twists or turns in the cord. Fold the fabric over the wrapped cord so it's covered with at least two layers of fabric on all sides; this will protect it from the heat of the iron.

    • 5). Set the iron to the lowest setting and wait for it to heat up.

    • 6). Lightly iron the cord through the cloth layers. Use steam. Hold the iron in one place for no more than three seconds. Unroll the cloth and check the cord; the goal is to soften the wax but not melt it.

    • 7). Pinch your thumb and forefinger over the cord and gently slide your fingertips down its length.

    • 8). Stretch the cord out on the floor, or in large coils on a flat surface. Let it cool at room temperature for a half hour.
