How to Use Deer Horns for Handles

    • 1). Choose a section of a horn to use as a cabinet or drawer handle. You may choose either a curved section or a straight section of the horn, depending on the desired effect you want with the finished handles. Cut the section out using a bone saw.

    • 2). Protect the section of deer horn you intend to use as a drawer or cabinet pull. Coat the horn piece with clear polyurethane. Set the horn section aside to dry before proceeding.

    • 3). Drill one or two holes into the horn section. Hold the piece in your hand and work carefully and slowly to drill the holes into the deer horn. Drill the holes slightly larger than the headless bolts you will use to mount the handles and wear a respirator and goggles to prevent dust from the antlers from irritating your eyes and airway.

    • 4). Measure the distance between the two holes in the deer horn. Use this measurement to mark the location of mounting holes on the cabinet or door front. Use a pencil to mark the holes where you need to drill.

    • 5). Drill through the cabinet or drawer front where you made the pencil marks. For this step use a drill bit measuring exactly the same diameter as the headless bolts you require to mount the handles.

    • 6). Place a liberal amount of strong adhesive into the holes on the section of deer horn. Place one end of a bolt into each of the holes and hold into place for several minutes while the glue bonds.

    • 7). Set the handles into place over the holes in the cabinet doors and drawer fronts. Feed the bolts through these holes and screw bolt nuts onto the ends to hold the deer-horn handles into place on the cabinets and drawers.
