How to Upgrade to Windows 98E
- 1). Start your computer. When the Windows 98 desktop is fully loaded, insert the Windows 98 SE upgrade disc. The disc will scan your system and determine that it contains a newer version of Windows than the one installed. Click "Yes" to continue, then click "Continue" when the setup program loads.
- 2). Examine the terms of the license agreement for the software. If you agree, click the radio button labeled "I accept the agreement" and click "Next."
- 3). Enter the product key for the Windows 98 SE upgrade disc exactly as it is shown on the instruction manual, CD jacket or certificate of authenticity. Click "Next."
- 4). Select "Yes" if you would like to save the system files from your present Windows installation, and "No" if you would rather not. If you save the system files, you can downgrade from Windows 98 SE back to Windows 98 if desired. However, saving the system files will consume a great deal of hard drive space. Click "Next" after deciding.
- 5). Select your location, then click "Next."
- 6). Insert a floppy drive into your computer and click "Next" if you would like to create a startup floppy disk. If you do not want to do this, click "Cancel." Click "Next" again after creating the disk or canceling the process. The setup utility will begin copying the Windows 98 SE system files to your hard drive. This process may take several minutes. When it is done, the computer will restart and the setup program will continue. After restarting a final time, the Windows 98 SE desktop will load. The upgrade is complete.
