How to Troubleshoot Slim Client

    • 1). Remove and reseat the network cable running to the back of the slim client. Slim clients are completely dependent on the network they connect to for their configuration and settings, and if they cannot connect to the network they cannot function properly.

    • 2). Disconnect the slim client and connect a standard desktop computer or laptop in its place. Log-on to the computer and click the "Start" button. Choose "Run" from the menu, then type "cmd' in the box. Type 'ipconfig" at the prompt. You should see a series of four numbers, each separated by a period. This is the IP address of the workstation. If you see a "media disconnected" message -- or if the IP address reads 0.0.0.0 -- the problem lies with the network port and not the slim client itself.

    • 3). Remove the video cable from the back of the slim client if you hear the unit booting, but see no video. Reconnect the monitor and restart the slim client. Replace the monitor with one you know is good, if you still get no video.

    • 4). Remove the keyboard and mouse from the back of the slim client. Reseat the USB keyboard and mouse and restart the unit.

    • 5). Insert the USB drive containing the standard image for the slim client, if it fails to boot to the operating system. A corrupt operating system file can cause the slim client to fail to boot.

    • 6). Restart the slim client and allow it to boot to the USB device. Choose the restore option to reimage the slim client. Contact your system administrator, if you need to obtain the current image for the slim clients .
