How to Get a Boot File From a CD
- 1). Insert the bootable CD that you wish to extract the boot file from into your computer's CD or DVD drive. If AutoPlay attempts to launch a program on the disc, or prompts you to choose an action, close it or hit the "Cancel" button.
- 2). Open Windows Explorer by clicking on the "Computer" or "My Computer" item in the Start menu. Locate the bbie.exe program file on your computer, then drag it to your "C:\" drive to move it from its current location to the main directory of the drive. If the mouse-over text reads "Copy" instead of "Move," hold the "Shift" key down on your keyboard to change it to a "Move" action.
- 3). Open a command prompt by selecting "Run..." in the Start menu and typing "cmd" in the dialog box, then clicking "OK." When the command prompt window opens, type "cd c:\" (without the quotes) to change the active directory to the main C:\ drive directory.
- 4). Type "bbie d:" (again without the quotes), with the "d" being the letter assigned to the CD or DVD drive that your bootable CD is located in. Press the "Enter" key and wait while the BBIE program scans your CD for any boot images and extracts them to your hard drive.
- 5). Open Windows Explorer again if you previously closed it. Click on the C:\ drive in the navigation window to access its main directory; your boot file will be saved there, named "image1.bin." If more than one boot file was present on the CD, each file will share a similar naming format; they will be "image1.bin," "image1.bin," and so forth.
