    Using the System File Checker Tool

    • 1). Click on the "Start" menu icon, located on the bottom left portion of the desktop. Enter "cmd" into the search box provided on the start menu.

    • 2). Highlight and right-click the "cmd" program listed on the menu pane, using the mouse. Choose the "Run as administrator" option listed on the dialog box.

    • 3). Enter the administrator password, if prompted.

    • 4). Allow the command prompt window to load and type "sfc /scannow." Press the enter button to begin the scan.

    • 5). Close the command prompt window and operate the computer in a normal fashion, or try to duplicate the errors resulting from the missing system file. If the problem still exists, follow the instructions listed in the next section.

    Restoring The Operating System

    • 1). Open the start menu and type "system restore" into the search box. Click on the "System Restore" menu option listed.

    • 2). Allow the System Restore program window to load. Select the "Choose a different restore point" option, followed by the "Next" button.

    • 3). Select an appropriate restore point from the options listed. Be sure to choose a restore point that predates the initial appearance of the system errors. Click the "Next" button to begin the restoration process.

    • 4). Select the "Finish" button when prompted. Allow the computer to restart automatically before resuming normal operation.
